Delta TechOps MRO Achieves Engine Test Certification for PW1500G Engines

  • Delta TechOps (DTO) achieved engine test certification for Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines, specifically the PW1500G model, for the Airbus A220 family
  • The certification was carried out at TechOps’ newest engine test cell, the largest MRO test cell in the world

Recently, Delta TechOps achieved Engine Test Certification for the PW1500G engine in Atlanta on its new engine test cell, the largest MRO test cell in the world. The PW1500G engine is a member of the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ family and the exclusive powerplant for the Airbus A220 family. This milestone, which encompassed more than a year’s work, demonstrated the DTO Test Cell Team’s flawless execution of acceptance testing. The achievement also underscores the cross-divisional team’s ongoing efforts to prepare for GTF engine ramp-up and meet customer demands even through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thanks to all team members who supported the test cell certification and correlation during the busy holiday season and even completed the process ahead of schedule,” said Mike McBride, Vice President – Maintenance Operations & Delta Material Services. “We are positioned well to accelerate our MRO capabilities and next-generation engine services with this fleet in 2022 and beyond.”

The work brings us one step closer to welcoming PW1500G engine overhauls to Delta TechOps and further strengthening our MRO services portfolio. This accomplishment comes approximately one year after Delta TechOps’ first comprehensive maintenance visit of a PW1100G-JM engine, another member of the GTF engine family which powers Airbus A320neo family aircraft.

“The meticulous hard work showcased by the Delta TechOps team since inducting their first PW1100G-JM engine and now obtaining engine test certification for the PW1500G engine exemplifies the value they bring to the Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO network,” said Joe Sylvestro, vice president of Aftermarket Global Operations at Pratt & Whitney. “Congratulations to the team. We look forward to recognizing your first PW1500G induction in the foreseeable future.”

Since 2019, when Delta TechOps became a provider in the Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO network, TechOps has made significant investments to further enhance maintenance capabilities. This includes the development of a hot section repair shop, construction of the largest MRO test cell in the world and an additive manufacturing shop.
